Founded in 2024, Junior Faculty is an association of early- and mid-career researchers who are, or are becoming, group leaders and future academic leaders at Charles University’s Faculty of Science in Prague, Czech Republic.
Junior Faculty gives voice to young PIs across all sections of the Faculty: Geology, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences. Its mission is to stimulate the research environment by providing peer support and advice in areas related to research, also by building on the members’ previous experience at diverse institutions worldwide.

Junior Faculty operates with four focus groups, addressing essential topics for the future development of the Faculty, including career development, research support, teaching, and campus development. Find out more in the association’s manifesto.
Junior Faculty is chaired by Jan Mašek, PI of the Laboratory of Intercellular Communication, and co-chaired by Gianvito Scaringi, leader of the Geohazards Group.
The association welcomes new members: early- to mid-career PIs from Charles University’s Faculty of Science who identify with the association’s mission and would like to help improve the life and work of young PIs at the Faculty. Join us!
Junior Faculty actively encourages the self-organisation of young PIs also at other faculties and institutions.

And last but not least: save the date! The first Junior Faculty Conference will be held in Prague on September 26, 2025. The event is free upon registration. There will be engaging flash talks, panel discussions on academic culture and institutional development, coffee, cakes, and exciting networking opportunities!
